Unity Flag
It all begins with an idea.
In August 2023, Centro Hispano became a vibrant hub for creativity and connection as it hosted a series of five engaging sessions for seniors. Led by the talented local artist Rosa Padilla in collaboration with Teatro Paloma and the seed project, the workshop attracted over 50 enthusiastic participants.
The heart of the workshop was a collaborative art project aiming to weave the diverse perspectives of the participants into a tangible symbol of unity. Under Rosa Padilla's guidance, each senior expressed their personal definition of community. The process was not just about art; it was about sharing stories, memories, and the essence of what community meant to each individual.
The culmination of these collective efforts was the creation of the Unity Flag, a beautiful quilted masterpiece that serves as a visual testament to the richness and diversity within the Southeast Lancaster community. This vibrant flag reflects the tapestry of experiences and values that bind the participants together.
To celebrate the completion of the Unity Flag, an unveiling ceremony took place at the Centro Hispano on October 14th, 2023. The flag now proudly adorns the space at TEC Centro, serving as a living testament to the strength and unity forged through creative collaboration. This project showcased the power of communal expression in fostering a sense of togetherness.
